Welcome to the web site of the New Zealand Pig Breeders Association.

About our Association:

The Association keeps a register and publishes the herd book for the New Zealand Pig Breeders.

It is involved in the training of judges and makes recommendations to A& P Societies regarding their choice of show classes and judges.

It conducts a National Show and Sale once a year as requested by its members.

When necessary it will make submissions to Government or other regulatory organisations on behalf of Pig Breeders.

It producers several newsletters per year which keep its members informed about activities conducted by the Association, it’s Branches and members.

How is the Association structured?

The Association has a Council that comprises four members elected by members on a four year rotational basis. The country is divided into two Wards (North Island & South Island) and the retiring Councillor is alternated yearly between these two wards. The President is elected by Councillors from one of the four members. Council administers the affairs of the Association

The registration of pigs, the herd book and the day to day running of the Association is handled by the Chief Executive Officer who is employed by, and is responsible to the Council.

There are two types of membership. One is a full membership that provides for a reduction in registration and transfer fees and allows the member to have a vote at meetings and stand for office. The other is an Associate membership that is for people who are interested in the Association but very seldom use the services of the Association. Their subscription is cheaper but they pay double the fees for registrations etc. They are not eligible to stand for office or vote at a meeting.

There are five active Branches ( Taranaki, Manawatu/Waiarapa/Wellington, Nelson, Canterbury and Southland). These are made up of members within the branch area and conduct the activities such as field days and judging tuition days for their own area. They elect their own officers from their area members.

Branches usually assist A&P Societies in the running of the pig section of their shows.
